USC Offerings

USC Brightspace Faculty Institute–Foundations

*Note: All champions are welcome in the institute; faculty status is not required.

ITS and CET will host two sections of an interactive, synchronous institute on using Brightspace. Every session will provide Champions with 1) pedagogical strategies, 2) demonstrations on how to use Brightspace tools that support those strategies, and 3) practice sessions in break-out rooms with colleagues and tech support. Sessions will be recorded to provide flexibility and allow review of the material presented. The institute includes 7 90-minute sessions and 1 asynchronous introduction module covering 8 topics.

Section 1 – Mondays and Wednesdays

  • Monday, October 30 – Creating an assignment submission (Module 2)

  • Monday, November 6 – Gradebook Set-up (Module 4)
  • Wednesday, November 8 – Creating a quiz, survey, and self-assessment (Module 5)
  • Monday, November 13 – Communicating with students (Module 6)
  • Wednesday, November 15 – Collaboration: Discussions and Groups (Module 7)

Section 2 – Tuesdays and Thursdays

Premium Brightspace Guided Training

Access to asynchronous Brightspace Guided Training and recordings of institute sessions will be available to all Champions participating in the pilot and their TAs in their Brightspace account, as an independent study option.

Just-in-Time Workshops

Workshops will be held on topics on which institute participants would like additional support.

Champions who are unable to attend the USC Brightspace Faculty Institute also have the option to register for a series of 6 2-hour training webinars provided by Brightspace LMS specialists to USC instructional designers and instructional support staff to prepare them for supporting faculty in the Spring. You can register for each of the 6 webinars by clicking the linked titles in the list below.  

Recordings of each of these webinars will be available to those who register for 60 days after the webinar takes place. You must register for (but do not have to attend) the webinars to have access to the recordings.
