Course Design & Teaching Consultations

Whether you’re revising a syllabus, exploring new teaching strategies, or reflecting on student feedback, the Center for Excellence in Teaching (CET) is here to support you. We offer complimentary, personalized consultations for all USC faculty—across disciplines, campuses, and teaching modalities.

Our consultations are flexible: we’ll meet as often as needed—whether that’s once a year for a check-in or weekly as you redesign a course. Sessions can take place in person, or on Zoom—whatever works best for you.

What we can help with:

  • Designing or revising course learning objectives.
  • Developing effective and inclusive assessments.
  • Creating active and engaging learning experiences.
  • Interpreting and responding to student evaluations.
  • Managing group work and peer evaluation.
  • Enhancing classroom climate and student motivation.
  • Planning flipped or hybrid course structures.
  • Navigating classroom challenges or student concerns.
  • Exploring innovative approaches to teaching with AI.

Every consultation is unique because it starts with your questions, goals, and teaching context. Our team brings deep expertise, practical insights, and a collaborative spirit to every conversation.

What faculty are saying:

Working with CET who can help us think about new and different ways to make classes more student-centered and achieve a course’s detailed outcomes has made us better instructors, our classes more focused and our students more engaged.

Working with the team at CET was a great experience. … They offered speedy, thorough and helpful feedback on our curricula and connected us with other academic support services at USC. I am indebted to the CET staff and truly grateful that these resources exist on campus.”
