Advanced Teaching Institute: Maximizing Course Accessibility by Minimizing Academic Ableism

The semester-long institute comprises a series of seven workshop-style Zoom sessions. Due to the interactive design of this institute, registration will be limited to 24 faculty in the cohort.

This institute will provide a supportive and informative space to assist faculty in proactively eliminating barriers to learning, developing skills to interact effectively with students with disabilities, and learning the foundations of creating accessible course materials. Institute facilitators, guest speakers, and participants will engage in the following topics

  • Create an accessible learning environment.
  • Describe educational policies and laws for persons with disabilities.
  • Effectively address student accommodations.
  • Demonstrate disability etiquette focusing on language and interactions.
  • Create accessible course materials (Word, PowerPoint, and PDFs).

To be offered at a future date. 

Certificates of completion will be given to those who participate in at least six of the seven synchronous Zoom sessions.
