The Future Faculty Teaching Institute is a training program for USC graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who want to build a strong The Future Faculty Teaching Institute is a training program for USC graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who want to build a strong foundation for a teaching-focused faculty career. The Institute introduces core principles of course design and effective teaching so participants can begin developing their own teaching practice with confidence and clarity.
FFTI includes 12 modules, each with brief pre-work and a one-hour live Zoom session. If you cannot attend the synchronous sessions, an alternative submission option is available.
Across the modules, participants gain:
- A solid grounding in course design and evidence-based teaching practices in higher education.
- Approaches for creating inclusive learning environments.
- Practical techniques to strengthen student learning.
- Space for collaborative, cross-disciplinary conversation with peers
Participants who complete all 12 modules earn a digital badge and a certificate of completion. Completion requires either joining the Tuesday Zoom session or watching the recording and submitting the alternative assignment.
Important note:
The CET Future Faculty Teaching Institute is not a TA-training service. CET does not train TAs, but does offer a comprehensive TA curriculum that schools can implement for their TAs. If you are interested in becoming a Mentored Teaching Fellow, which is an intensive program with CET training and faculty mentorship, please contact your chair, dean’s office, or faculty mentor.
Live Zoom sessions resume Fall 2026
Registration for Spring 2026 is closed, but the Institute will be offered again in Fall 2026. Sign up for our monthly newsletter to be notified when registration opens in late summer 2026.
