Ann Reyes Robbins

Ann Reyes Robbins is a PhD candidate in the School of Social Work. She is also pursuing a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Science and recently completed a graduate certificate program in Public Policy. Ann teaches an Intersectoral Leadership course in the School of Policy, Planning, and Development comprised of an interdisciplinary group of graduate students majoring in Health Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, and Urban Planning, as well as dual-degree students enrolled in programs such as Social Work, Business, and Law.

Ann received her undergraduate degree from USC and her JD from the University of Michigan. She was a practicing attorney focused on child welfare law, a certified family law specialist, mediator, and juvenile court magistrate in Indiana prior to returning to USC in 2005. Ann’s social policy research interests center on children and their families, including the intersection of child maltreatment and delinquency, family group conferencing, youth social capital, and critical race theory.

Ann’s dissertation research is funded through an R01 minority supplement from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The work entails a mixed methods approach linking child interviews with court records to test various hypotheses related to children’s disclosure of abuse. Ann’s involvement as a Teaching Assistant Fellow has exposed her to innovative ways in which to utilize technology to enhance collaborative learning, improve distance-learning relationships, and maintain a focus on creating learner-centered environments that expand beyond the confines of a traditional classroom setting.
