Class size is important. Though small classes are easier to teach than large classes for achieving long-term learning goals, it is possible to attain those same goals in large classes when they are taught appropriately. In addition to lecturing, we shall look at additional ways to maintain student involvement and how to reduce students' feeling of anonymity. There are many alternative teaching methods, usable in large classes, that are equally successful in facilitating active, meaningful learning (e.g., student-led discussions, learning cells, problem solving, study groups, email discussions, buzz groups, and technology enhanced course-delivery).
