ITA Language Institute

If you are an international student and have received a Teaching Assistantship from your department, this Institute is for you!
Offered by the Center for Excellence in Teaching (CET) in partnership with the American Language Institute (ALI), the ITA Language Institute introduces new international teaching assistants to USC. The ITA Language Institute does not replace the TA training program. It is offered in addition to the TA training program to better support the specific needs of international TAs.
The Institute will help you:
- Learn about different teaching styles
- Develop and improve your oral communication skills
- Learn how to answer students' questions in class
- Discover how to encourage students to participate in class

Please note that this Institute is highly recommended as it provides invaluable preparation for the ITA Oral Exam, which is required of most new International Teaching Assistants. If you would like to participate in the Institute, please contact your TA Coordinator/ Graduate Advisor.
The ITA Language Institute does not replace the the TA training program. It is offered in addtion to the TA training program to better support the specific needs of international TAs.
NOTE: Some units on campus (USC College, for example) REQUIRE participation in the ITA Language Institute for international TAs. Please contact your respective Dean's office to ensure compliance. The USC College Office of Undergraduate Programs can be reached at (213) 740-8555.
