Negotiating an Academic Job Offer

Event Description

The academic job process is not finished with the initial offer: You can negotiate for the deal best suited to your needs. Learn when you can negotiate, what you can ask for, and how. Experienced faculty will identify the key components of a job offer (such as moving expenses, base salary, research support [including research assistance, travel and conference support], teaching load, etc.) and share some insights on what is negotiable and what is not in relation to these components. The panel will also discuss how you can unobtrusively collect information from multiple sources and use this information to communicate reasonable demands in the offer negotiation process.

October 16, 2009 - Hosts: Michael Quick, Dana Johnson, & Alan Willner
