Understanding Institutional Cultures

Event description

You have begun an academic job search. You have met your future colleagues, seen the campus and the community. But have you gotten a read on the institution's culture? What difference will it make to your career to know you are working at a public vs. a private institution? A four-year liberal arts college vs. a research university? Can they really be all that different? Do you know how your institution is funded – and why does that matter? Is its mission statement really all that important to your career? This workshop will look at the role institutional culture can play in shaping your career. We will talk about ways institutions create and reinforce their cultures, and how being a student of institutional culture will help you as a future faculty member.
