Michael Wincor
Michael Wincor is an associate professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy and an associate professor of psychiatry and the behavioral sciences at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. In addition, Dr. Wincor is the Associate Dean for Global Initiatives and Technology at the School of Pharmacy. For nine years, he was the Associate Dean for Continuing Professional Development. He has been involved in training pharmacy students, medical students, pharmacy residents, and psychiatry residents both in the classroom and clinic. He serves as a member of the university's Committee on Information Services. His current interests focus on sleep and sleep disorders, clinical psychopharmacology, psychiatric pharmacy practice, and global pharmacy education.
Dr. Wincor received his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Chicago, where he was actively involved in sleep research, and his Pharm.D. and Residency Certificate in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice from USC. He is board certified in psychiatric pharmacy. He has served as a visiting faculty member and collaborated on pharmacy curriculum at universities throughout Asia and in Europe. He has also facilitated exchange programs with dozens of universities allowing students and faculty an opportunity to both host and visit sister institutions.
Dr. Wincor has been acknowledged for his mentoring, teaching, and clinical activities. Both the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Students of Pharmacy and the Rho Chi National Pharmacy Honor Society have recognized him nationally as faculty advisor of the year. He has served as the Chair of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Global Pharmacy Education Special Interest Group and as a member of the Research and Graduate Affairs Committee. He was elected to and currently serves as a Member-at-Large of the Executive Council of the Academic Section of the Fédération Internationale Pharmaceutique. He has served as regional councilor and member of the National Executive Council of the Rho Chi Society. Co-coordinating the Central Nervous System Therapeutics Module and offering electives in Sleep Disorders and Pharmacy Education, Dr. Wincor has been named Professor of the Year for the USC School of Pharmacy twelve times, and was the recipient of the 10th annual Saklad Memorial Lecture Award in 2007, presented to him by the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists.
As a fellow of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Dr. Wincor's interests focus on: 1) mentoring of faculty and graduate students in the art and science of pedagogy, helping them, if necessary, to discover or re-discover the principles and joy of teaching and learning; and 2) integration of technology into learning.
